My Favorite

What's your preference?
What do you favor?
What's your favorite?

Of course, we all have preferences or 'favorites' in every aspect of life. By simply having a point of view, we all take a position on what is most beneficial to us (consciously or unconsciously).

Our favorite anything is always fun to experience, but have you noticed that an overexposure to them tends to dull and depreciate it as your favorite?

A guy I know has all of his favorite songs on his ipod. Six months after he got it (and thousands of listens later) he tells me he's got to get some new music, and that he is really starting to hate his "all time favorite" songs because he played them to death.

Think about some of your favorite experiences to have. If you had whatever it is repeated for hours, days, weeks, or years on end, do you really think it would remain your favorite? Hence the wisdom in the words, "Too much of anything is bad for you." Balance allows us to enjoy our favorites.

There is something that, if it becomes your favorite, does not loose it's potency. (It actually increases over time.) In reality, it is the source of every other favorite possible because without it, preferences would not be possible. It is not really a thing. It is life itself. It is the conscious awareness observing before any determination of preference.

Aligning with the present moment, and making life experience your favorite thing, can only increase the over all quality of life. And not coincidentally, you will be surrounded by much more of your preferences.

Awareness of being aware is my favorite.

When a person chooses to believe or sense everything has equal value, the concept of a favorite is an illusion. Curiously though, human beings are conditioned to pick a favorite (lucky) number, a special food or other taste preference. The decision to choose a 'favorite' actually reflects ego, and this often goes unnoticed. As a person raises core awareness, it is an opportunity for learning and growth. One aspires to move beyond perspective of ego that is not yet aligned with soul consciousness.

Hi C Om, how are you?

I read so much about the 'ego' on some of the blogs and it is always portrayed like a bad element which seems to interfere with spiritual growth, and the like. I searched it's meaning and share the following.

noun, plural e⋅gos.
1. the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.
2. Psychoanalysis. the part of the psychic apparatus that experiences and reacts to the outside world and thus mediates between the primitive drives of the id and the demands of the social and physical environment.
3. egotism; conceit; self-importance: Her ego becomes more unbearable each day.
4. self-esteem or self-image; feelings: Your criticism wounded his ego.
5. (often initial capital letter) Philosophy.
a. the enduring and conscious element that knows experience.
b. Scholasticism. the complete person comprising both body and soul.

I really ally with all the various meanings EXCEPT number THREE and see the rest as really good and never an obstacle to my growth, in fact, quite the opposite.

And as far as "favorites". I agree that too much of anything and it loses its 'special quality', except love, kindness, truth, compassion, justice, peace, hope...........and for the record - Pizza is still a favorite of mine as is time spent by our brook and many, many experiences in between. I hope that never changes. Love Gail
peace......

Really great post. Thanks for sharing this insight.

I agree, that this approach will increase the quality of life. Back to the present moment, one breath at a time!

Nice post - I think the resonates with what you were talking about earlier in your post about stuff. Too much attachment to your favorites in this case wears out their enjoyability, if that's a word :)
Moderation is key!

I agree that my favorite is aligning with myself, the moment, the all that is, what ever your preference.

About getting tired of something I love if I have too much, I'm not too worried about that because I'll just be on to experience something new. Like your friend, bet he has found lots of new songs to enjoy.

Glad you're back at the 'post'. :)

Indeed! Always very insightful. :)

I know what you mean Gail. My understanding is that the ego is over used most of the time. It is overly controlling of the thought process causing life's drama. That's why so many bad mouth it.

You are right in that there is good as well. The key is perspective and balance. Once we are able to be consciousness enough that we are not possessed by our ego thoughts, we can bring about a balance and align ourselves with our higher purposes. But in order to have a purpose, ego must exist.
